Together with a representative of the Amnesty International, our activist visitited Jabucki rit, Orlovsko naselje and Makis settlements on March 20, 2017. Since the resettlement of Roma informal settlments Gazela and Belvil, Equality together with other human rights orgnizations more than seven years in a row monitors the situation of former dwelllers of these settlements. While a significant number of them have been placed into the social apartments by now,  the situation at which are those who have been deported against their will to their last registered residence and those who have been left in metal containers demands that we contantly remind both insitutions and public of the unfulfilled promises by the city autorities of the adequate alternative housing.

Besides, through a regular contacts with resettled Roma we have an opportunity to learn of different problems they encounter and provide them with legal and other assistance. After a years long experience we are now certain that this kind of system of social housing is unsustainable and that threats of eviction to those who can not fulful the unreasonable conditions reveal the futitlity of the social housing system.

In addition, we believe that segregating Roma settlements is not just the most dramatic example of their discrimination, but that the long-lasting consequences of the social inclusion that these housing measures strengthen are detrimental not only to affected Roma but the society in whole.
